Monywa ( 2 Days / 1 Night )

picturesque town on the Chindwin River,
Monywa is known a typical unspoilt Myanmar
town and it is only a three hours’ drive
from Mandalay. The name Monywa comes from
Mon meaning “cake or snack food” and Ywa
means village. A legend says that in the old
days a Myanmar king fell in love with a
seller of cakes from this town and made her
his queen. The original name some say is
Mon-Thema-Ywa or “Village of the woman
cakeseller” On the way to Monywa and before
you reach the town there is unusual Buddhist
temple complex on 37 acres of land called
Mohnyin Thanboddhay. It is similar in
architectural design to the Borobodur, a
famous ancient pagoda in Indonesia.
After visiting Monywa, if time permit,
instead of return back to Mandalay, you can
travel to the Ancient Bagan from Myinmu by
private boat called Shwekeinnarry so it will
save your time and money. Myinmu is located
on the way of Mandalay – Monywa. The boat
will leave from Myinmu at about 9Am and
arrive in Bagan at about 3Pm. Regarding the

Day 1 - Mandalay / Monywa :
After breakfast, excursion by coach to
Monywa, 84 miles northwest of Mandalay. On
the way, visit Mohnyin Than Buddhe Pagoda
where more than 500,000 Buddha images are
seated, Bodi-Ta-Htaung ( a thousand Bo Trees
) Pagoda and the largest reclinining Buddha
Image in Myanmar which measures 333 ft long
and 90ft high. Arrive Monywa and check-in at
Monywa Hotel. After lunch visit Kyaukka
Lacquerware village and Shweguni Pagoda.
Dinner at outside local restaurant and
overnight at Monywa Hotel.
Day 2 - Monywa / Mt. Po Win / Mandalay :
After breakfast, transfer to jetty so as to
visit Mt. Po Win which is situated on the
western bank of the Chindwin River. Worth
visiting places are of Mt. Po Win and Mt.
Shwe Ba where the rock mountain was carved
into niches, Buddha statues and staircase.
Arrive back to Monywa for lunch and drive to
Mandalay and check in at hotel. Upon arrival
in Mandalay, transfer to hotel (or) airport. |
